Project Description
This planting of native wildflowers (also known as "forbs") is part of a huge restoration effort to restore meadow habitats at Sams Walker Day Use Area, led by Center for Ecodynamic Restoration and U.S. Forest Service. The goal is to increase the native seedbank that supports pollinator and wildlife diversity in meadow and oak habitats. We'll plant in two restoration areas. One is a lupine meadow that was first planted in 2020 and we will continue increasing plant species here. The second meadow has been undergoing extensive weed control for a few years, was just seeded in October with a forb mix, and this event will be the first planting here! This is great opportunity to learn your native plants and be a part of exciting habitat enhancement efforts at this site!
This event is family friendly and appropriate for ages 6 and up. To help with staff capacity, we kindly ask that parents help engage their child in the project.
Physical work includes walking on uneven ground, bending, digging. The project site is about a .25 walk from the parking area along a grassy trail.
S?ite notes: There is a vault toilet in the parking area. Cell service is limited on site.
