Balfour-Klickitat Loop Trail

Join Friends Stewardship Volunteer Coordinator Mika Barrett and the U.S. Forest Service to remove invasive plants at the Balfour-Klickitat Loop Trail.

Volunteers will contribute to a larger restoration project that was started in spring 2018 to remove an infestation of European houndstongue.  European Houndstongue is poisonous to wildlife, has seeds that spread prolifically, and can displace native vegetation. To mitigate the spread of this plant, stewardship volunteers removed 1,400+  gallons of European houndstongue last year. Now we need help hand-pulling this plant to preserve this beautiful trail in the Gorge.

This event is featured as part of Native Plant Month Portland 2019. For more information about Native Plant Month, go to

No experience is necessary and all tools will be provided. Please come dressed for the weather and wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Get ready to have fun!

We appreciate our volunteers! As a thank you, volunteers are gifted with a free Friends of the Columbia Gorge tech-tee after completing 3 stewardship work parties. For those who have gone above and beyond for the Gorge, volunteers earn a NW Forest Pass after completing 6 stewardship work parties with the U.S. Forest Service.
