Project Description

Join us in this annual stewardship event focused on removing invasive scotch broom from a beautiful camas bed at a Friends Land Trust preserve. The Native Plant Society was been leading this effort for many years and Friends volunteers will be joining in to carry on this important work for years to come.

Level of physical work includes walking a very short sloped distance from the parking area. While working, volunteers will be carrying bags of weeds, bending, and kneeling.

Site notes: There is no restroom on site.

We provide all necessary tools and gloves, however you are also welcome to bring your own gloves and handtools.

What to Bring:

  • Lunch, snacks, and plenty of water (we'll eat lunch at the preserve).
  • A pack to carry your personal gear
  • Personal hand sanitizer
  • Sun protection - this site is an open meadow with little shade
  • Tick spray if you prefer (tucking your pants into socks works well)
  • Readiness to meet great people and have a fun day outside!

What to Wear:

  • Boots or sturdy sneakers
  • Long durable pants and long-sleeved shirt
  • Dress for weather: extra layers of clothing in case of wet or cold weather

Schedule:

  • 9:00 a.m. - Check in, meet the crew and safety check-in
  • 9:15 a.m. - Walk to project area, Scotch broom identification and removal
  • 11:15 a.m. - Lunch break/take breaks as needed along the way
