Columbia Hills State Park Tour Guide Jim Denton (in place of Jim Chase) will lead us to ancient petroglyphs and rock images, including Tsagaglalal, or She Who Watches. Conservation Organizer Ryan Rittenhouse will provide an update on Friends’ conservation work having to do with fossil fuel transport through the Gorge. After the tour, enjoy a BYO picnic lunch by Horsethief Lake, then head to nearby Horsethief Butte to learn about and see additional Native American features in the area and unique geology traced back to Ice Age Floods.
The petroglyphs portion will be from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and is a ¾-mile walk. The Horsethief Butte portion will add another 1.5 miles. Note: though the distances are short, the trail is rocky and uneven so not suited for those with uneasy footing.
