From Feb. 1-July 15, the lower section of the Cape Horn trail has a seasonal closure for nesting peregrine falcons. The closed section is located between a point about a half-mile southwest of the west pedestrian underpass/tunnel at SR-14 and the bottom of Cape Horn Rd. Failure to respect the closure can result in as much as a $5,000 fine, and future use of the trail is dependent on hikers respecting this closure.

From April 15 - June 18, take the shuttle bus to Dog Mountain Trailhead from Skamania County Fairgrounds. This shuttle bus operates only on Saturday & Sundays running every 15-20 minutes for $2 round trip. Historically the parking lot is full by 10 a.m. and it is illegal and unsafe to park on Hwy 14. The balsamroot blooms are expected to be later than usual this year; possibly as late as mid-June. Read press release.

Seasonal closure - the upper section of Larch Mountain Road will close for the winter season. Every autumn the county closes upper Larch Mountain Road by installing a snow gate near mile post 10. The closure protects the traveling public from adverse weather conditions and reduces maintenance costs associated with snow removal. The gate is opened each spring.

Please stay clear of Oneonta Gorge, which is closed for public safety due to flash flood conditions that destabilized the upper canyon and carried rocks, fallen trees, and debris with it. The area is closed to the public until we are able to re-assess the stability of the upper part of the slot canyon and ensure the risk of flash floods has subsided.
