Dancing Rock is a beautiful 64-acre preserve rich in cultural, scenic, and natural resources. Bordering U.S. Forest Service land, Yakama Nation territory, and private properties, it lies near Dalles Mountain Ranch, part of Columbia Hills State Park. The preserve boasts unique ecological and geological features, including a rare Kolk pond and an oak riparian area, making it a truly distinctive landscape.

The property supports diverse habitats, such as riparian oak forests, stream corridors, ponds and wetlands, and open meadows. A 2012 botanical survey documented a variety of grassland species, including Nevada bluegrass and wheatgrass, along with California hazelnut, bitter cherry, willows, and common monkey flower in the riparian zones. Although a formal wildlife survey has yet to be conducted, staff have observed a range of wildlife, including aquatic birds, yellow-bellied marmots, coyotes, and various songbird species.

In 2020, Melissa Darby of Lower Columbia Research and Archaeology (LCRA) carried out a cultural survey of Dancing Rock, analyzing historical records and maps to explore its archaeological significance. The findings suggest that humans have occupied this area for over 12,000 years, with artifacts pointing to a rich history of seasonal gathering. While no ownership transfer is planned, Friends is committed to preserving and managing the land, including maintaining fencing to keep cattle out and ensuring access for First Foods gatherers.
