Outing Description
Follow hike leader Don McCoy through a beautiful old-growth forest in fall colors to the sparkling headwaters of Multnomah Creek. You will complete the loop hike around the Larch Mountain “crater” with a panoramic breathtaking view from Sherrard Point of five major volcanic peaks. Well-trained, leashed dogs are welcome to accompany you, but you do not need a dog to attend.
Trained volunteers lead Friends outings
What you can expect on this guided outing: A mostly shaded trail through the forest. Be on the lookout for fungi, frogs, and salamanders.
Hazards: Lots of loose rock and tree roots, perfect combination to twist an ankle, wear appropriate footwear. Portions of this trail are rocky, semi-rugged, and steep in sections. Hiking poles are recommended. View the recommended 10+ Essentials List to help you pack.

Fee: A valid Northwest Forest Recreation Pass is required at Larch Mountain trailhead. You can purchase a Day use or Annual pass, for more information click here.

What to expect at a Friends guided outing: Expect a supportive and welcoming space where experienced hike leaders and shepherds guide you throughout Gorge outdoor spaces. Friends outings provide the opportunity to explore the Columbia Gorge, build community, and learn how Friends is the only conservation organization entirely dedicated to protecting, preserving, and stewarding the Gorge.
