Project Description

Managing European Houndstongue requries seasonal maintenance in both spring and fall. Volunteers will contribute to a large restoration project that was started in spring 2018 to remove an infestation of European houndstongue. European houndstongue is poisonous to livestock, has seeds that spread prolifically, and can displace native vegetation. To mitigate the spread of this plant, stewardship volunteers have removed 2,000+ gallons of European houndstongue over the past three years! And the work continues!

Level of physical work includes hiking about 0.25 miles along a paved trail to the worksite in a field of tall grass. While working, volunteers will be digging with a hand tool or shovel, bending, and kneeling.

Site notes: There is a USFS outhouse here. There are ticks on site so we'll do frequent tick checks. There is some poison oak on site that we will identify and avoid.
