Join Oregon Master Naturalist Cindy Luxhoj on a quest to scale Starvation Ridge and emerge victorious on the summit of Mt Defiance, the highest peak in the Scenic Area. The reward certainly isn't the view, although it's nice to gaze on Mt Hood amidst the radio towers. We'll go up Starvation Ridge, stroll by Warren Lake, take the lollipop to Defiance's summit, then begin the tortuous descent. Slow and steady, there's no race, just the satisfaction of knowing you've triumphed over one of the most difficult hikes in the Gorge and lived to brag about it.

This is an expert-level, full-day hike on very steep terrain. Attendees may receive a call to discuss the hike details and experience level prior to the outing.

Wear sturdy hike boots/shoes, and bring your daypack with plenty of food for snacks and lunch, at least 2L of water, and layers for protection against the elements. Hiking poles are very strongly recommended. View the recommended 10+ Essentials List to help you pack.

Before this outing, make sure you understand our Hike Program Information & Guidelines.
