CANCELED: PCT to Gillette Lake and Greenleaf Overlook

Thursday, June 11, 2020

9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Strenuous: 8.8 miles | 850-ft elev. gain

Due to coronavirus concerns this event has been canceled.

Follow hike leader Bob Thoenen on a section of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) through Douglas fir forest and the broken landscape left behind when a portion of Table Mountain broke off and slid into the Columbia River in the 1450s, creating the Cascades of the Columbia and the "Bridge of the Gods". We’ll make our way to Greenleaf Overlook for views to the Oregon side of the Gorge, then head back to enjoy lunch at charming Gillette Lake before returning to our starting point.

WARNING: There is a lot of poison oak lining this trail. Most of the time it is easily avoidable, however there are sections where the trail narrows or the plants encroach on the trail, so we’ll be careful to point it out and have people avoid touching it.

Wear sturdy hike boots/shoes, and bring your daypack with a lunch, snacks, 2L of water, and layers for protection against the elements. Portions of this trail are on rocky scree; we recommend hiking poles. View the recommended 10+ Essentials List to help you pack.

Before this outing, make sure you understand our Hike Program Information & Guidelines.
