Join Field Representative Peter Cornelison for a kayak trip across the Columbia from Dalton Point in Oregon to Cigar Rock on the Washington shore and back. We’ll pass Phoca Rock, a river beacon named by Lewis & Clark for the abundant harbor seals spotted in the river in the early 1800s.
This outing is for experienced kayakers and canoeists only; you will be asked about your experience level. You must be comfortable crossing the Columbia River, about a mile wide where we put in. You will need to supply your own gear; Friends does not provide equipment or instruction. You must also be a competent swimmer. Canoes with flotation and sit on top kayaks are OK if it is not too windy, we will make this call a day in advance.
Please wear appropriate layers, waterproof outer layers, gloves, PFD, sun protection, lunch, a change of clothes and shoes for afterward.
