Balfour-Klickitat Loop Trail Invasive Plant Removal, WA

Join Friends Stewardship Volunteer Coordinator Mika Barrett and the U.S. Forest Service to remove invasive plants at the Balfour-Klickitat Loop Trail. 

Volunteers will contribute to a larger restoration project that was started in spring 2018 to remove an infestation of European houndstongue. European houndstongue is poisonous to wildlife, has seeds that spread prolifically, and can displace native vegetation. To mitigate the spread of this plant, stewardship volunteers removed 1,400+ gallons of European houndstongue last year.

Volunteers will also help cut down the invasive plant, Himalayan blackberry. The blackberry is crowding out native Oregon white oak trees, which provides critical habitat for wildlife. Volunteers will help free the trees to preserve this important resource in the Gorge.

No experience is necessary and all tools will be provided. Please come dressed for the weather and wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Get ready to have fun!
