Invasive Plant Removal at Beacon Rock State Park, WA

Join Friends Stewardship Volunteer Coordinator Mika Barrett and Washington State Parks to remove invasive plants.

Volunteers will work at Beacon Rock State Park's Riddell Lake to help cut down the invasive plant, Himalayan blackberry. This patch has been treated for years and we are really seeing a great dent! The blackberry is encroaching upon the native trees and shrubs around Riddell Lake where wild birds and animals live. It also has an excellent view of Beacon Rock in a serene landscape.

Please come dressed for the weather and wearing sturdy, closed-toe shoes and get ready to have fun!

Washington State Park offers a volunteer incentive to thank you for donating your time. After volunteering for a total of 24 hours with WA State Parks , you are rewarded with an Annual WA State Discover Park Pass!

What to Bring:

Lunch and plenty of water
Rain jacket and pants
Extra warm clothing in case of wet or cold weather
A pack to carry your personal gear

Schedule:

10:00 a.m. - Meet together for introductions and the safety talk
10:15 a.m. - Restoration project begins
12:00 noon. - Lunch break
12:30 p.m. - Restoration project continues
2:00 p.m. - Work party concludes
