Weekend Itinerary

Arrive Friday evening at The Historic Balch Hotel in Dufur, OR and enjoy a wine dessert reception to meet and mingle with the innkeepers and other weekend guests. A short evening presentation will introduce you to Friends of the Columbia Gorge and weekend logistics.

Saturday we'll enjoy breakfast at the hotel before setting out for a scenic hike on a private vineyard in The Dalles, Volcano Ridge Vineyard, which is loaded with with spring wildflowers in native oak habitat and offers views of Mount Adams and Mount Hood. While hiking, learn from owners Alan Busacca and Lonnie Wright about sustainable viticulture and farming practices - L.I.V.E and Salmon Safe certifications - and more about what makes Volcano Ridge Vineyard so unique. Enjoy a custom boxed lunch for a lovely picnic at this Gorge-worthy location.

Afterwards we’ll enjoy a private (and rare!) tasting of estate wines with our guides at Lonnie, Linda, and Sierra Wright's 'Pines 1852' private estate and winery to continue the day’s conversations of wildflowers and wine.

Later on, a Northwest-local themed feast will be provided at the hotel. Sip local wines paired for the meal. In an evening presentation, we’ll go into more detail about the local flora unique to the Columbia Gorge region.

On Sunday, after a leisurely morning breakfast (included), we'll caravan to picturesque Mosier Plateau, a Friends of the Columbia Gorge Land Trust property, for another beautiful wildflower hike. Our guide will teach us the history and future plans for this property. Enjoy your picnic lunch on the trail overlooking the Columbia River with views up and down the Gorge.

We’ll conclude our weekend with a visit to a winery nearby for wine tasting (optional) and socializing with your fellow guests before heading home.
